In the last few minutes around eight squad cars were dispatched to the court on Lady’s Lane.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a light haired man running out of the front doors of the building at around 12.45pm.

The man ran off in the direction of the Mounts car park, towards the police station.

A police spokeswoman said that the man was not a defendant fleeing the court room.

She said an altercation between a man and a woman on Sheep Street led to a police chase.

The man entered the court building as he was trying to evade capture.

She said: “There was an alleged altercation between a man and a woman, officers pursued the man outside the courts and arrested him.”
