South Northamptonshire MP Andrea Leadsom has been named as a climate change minister in the Prime Minister’s cabinet reshuffle.
On Monday afternoon members of David Cameron’s new government cabinet have been attending Downing Street to accept their new roles.
Ms Leadsom was named as Minister of State at the Department for Energy and Climate Change. She previously worked as Economic Secretary to the Treasury.
A spokesperson for the MP said they were unaware Ms Leadsom would be receiving a cabinet post until reports emerged in the media earlier this morning.
He said: “We are thrilled by the Prime Minister’s decision and are looking forward to the challenge.”
