BREAKING NEWS: Police name man whose body was found in the River Nene in Northampton

The man whose body was recovered from the River Nene in Northampton earlier this week has been named by police.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said the man had now been identified as 68-year-old Andrew Brown, from Northampton.

"There are no suspicious circumstance surrounding his death," the spokesman said.

"We would like to thank the public who responded to our appeal which enabled us to identify Mr Brown at the earliest opportunity and inform his next of kin, he added.

Mr Brown's body was discovered by a member of the public spotted the body at about 3pm on Monday, close to a sluice gate near the Avon headquarters in Nunn Mills Road.

On Monday night, police issued an appeal for help to identify the man who they said was a double amputee and was wearing a Six Nations rugby shirt.

Last night, Det Sgt Hayley Thurston, who is leading the investigation, confirmed they had been able to identify the man and inform his family but had not released the information to the media at that stage.
