A man was ‘negotiated to safety’ during a police incident which closed part of the A45 in Northampton this evening.
Northamptonshire Police closed the A45 Nene Valley Way in both directions at the junction with Bedford Road earlier this evening while officers dealt with an incident.
The road has since reopened although there are still reports of long delays and queues in the area.
A man involved in the incident has been described as ‘safe and well’.
The latest official statement from Northamptonshire Police, published just after 7.30pm, said: “All roads are now open in Northampton but will be moving slowly.
“Thank you for your patience. Incident resolved and everyone safe and well.”
A further statement said: “Following concerns for the welfare of a man, officers earlier, attended Barnes Meadow interchange & successfully negotiated man to safety.
“Officers will work with the man in terms of relevant care.”
Officers closed the road at the junction with Bedford Road, leaving motorists trapped for over an hour and a half.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police initially tweeted: “Police incident on the A45 junction with Bedford Road Northampton.
“Roads closed in both directions at this time.
“Unknown how long the road will be closed in Northampton. Police are working hard to resolve the incident as soon as possible.”
