More than 680 properties in Northampton have been affected by a power cut, which has delayed the start of the Northampton borough Council election count.

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution said the problem was caused by complications in a power unit in Campbell street.

Intermittent power has resumed in the last few minutes.

However, the blackout has delayed the start of Northampton Borough Council’s election count, being held at the Guildhall this evening.

The start of the count has now been put back until 6.30pm.
