BREAKING NEWS: Man dies after collision with lorry in Northampton town centre

A 48-year-old man has died after being in a fatal collision with a lorry in the centre of Northampton.

Police have confirmed the man, who was crossing the road by Sol Central at the junction of Mare Fair and Horsemarket on a mobility scooter at the time, has sadly passed away.

The collision happened at around 1pm this afternoon.

The air ambulance attended to treat the man, but he sadly died at the scene.

Roads are still closed in the town centre and motorists are still being urged to avoid the areas around Horsemarket and Mare Fair.

One onlooker recognised the man as a regular customer in the Exchange 4 Cash shop in Gold Street.

“He was a big chap,” he said. “Always cracking jokes and that, he often comes in here with his daughter.”

A spokeswoman from EMAS, said: “We received a call at 1.10pm today, 8 March, to a road traffic collision on Horseshoe Street in Northampton. The caller reported that a man had fallen into the road and been hit by a lorry. We sent a paramedic in a fast response vehicle and an ambulance crew to the incident.”
