A MEMBER of Northamptonshire County Council who moved to Cornwall earlier this year has resigned from the authority following criticism of her decision to stay on the council despite moving to the other end of the country.

Councillor Rosemary Bromwich (Con, Towcester) announced her decision on Wednesday afternoon.

In a letter to the council’s leader, Councillor Jim Harker (Con, Kettering Rural) she said: “It would seem that my continued presence on the council is now set to become a matter of controversy.

“This is not the place in which I would wish to be nor would I wish to be the cause of any difficulties for the administration.

“I have therefore decided to stand down as the County Councillor for Towcester with effect from 31st December 2011.”

A by-election will be held in the new year to find a new county councillor for Towcester. The election will be timed to coincide with a date when an election was also being held to find a new member for Towcester on South Northamptonshire Council.
