A bowls team has donated fines levied for breaches of its code of conduct to a cancer charity.
Kislingbury Bowls Club amassed more than £700 in 50p fines and other donations from May to September this year.
Transgressions include lateness, sending woods into a neighbouring rink, wearing the wrong colour caps or socks and swearing.
Club captain Lynn Ridgway said: “I introduced the fines because I’m a stickler for etiquette within the club. If the footballers and cricketers can stick to it, then why the hell can’t a bowls team?
“It’s done in a very jovial way, but it’s still surprising how much dobbing in there is when I don’t spot things firsthand.”
Cursing is not penalised during competitive games except mixed matches, when ladies are present.
In total, the fines and impromptu donations totalled £740, with the club topping the fund up to £1,000.
All of it has been donated to the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
