He appears in Save the Last Dance For Me, a musical from the same team behind the smah hit Dreamboats and Petticoats, coming to Milton Keynes Theatre from Monday May 23 to Saturday May 28.

It sees two teenage girls go off for a holiday without their parents and they end up falling for two American airmen, one of whom is played by Antony.

He said: “It is a show where everyone knows the songs, they are classics like Please Mr. Postman and Viva Las Vegas.

“It was also the chance to work with Bill Kenwright again as I had on the tour of Blood Brothers.

“It was music that I was very aware of, when I was growing up, this type of music was always on. I knew all the words before doing the show.”

And for Antony, he thinks the show plays to both his strengths and some of his weaknesses.

He said: “In the previous show, I did a Liverpudlian accent and for this, I am doing an American accent which is something I think I can do.

“I am probably not the world’s greatest dancer but I give it a 110 per cent and try and ensure the audience leave feeling happy.”

Antony commonly gets asked about his time with Blue and the most pressing is are the band working on anything new at the moment.

He said: “Not at the moment I’m afraid, we have got a couple of gigs in October.

“But we are great friends and it is great to work with them all.”

At the time of the interview, it is Eurovision week and we ask Antony a little bit about how the band came to represent the United Kingdom in the famous contest.

Antony said: “The BBC asked us, we were in the middle of working on a new, comeback album. Somehow news of this had got to the BBC and they asked us into a meeting and they said would you consider being the Eurovision entrant.

“It was an honour, it’s like being at the World Cup for singing and there were a lot of good things that came out. It was a lot hard work though at the time.”

Tickets for the show are available from £15. For more details or to book in advance call the box office on 0844 871 7652 or by visiting www.atgtickets.co.uk/miltonkeynes.
