Bands are playing to a Northampton park into this evening in the hope of winning a support slot at a Boyzone concert.

In total 14 groups will play 20 minutes of their best music to those gathered at Wootton Fields throughout today.

Judges said they were having difficulty choosing between the acts that have entertained the crowds, who have included Latin-inspired seven-piece Citadel and Northampton-based The Collective.

Emily Sanchez, aged 32, from East Hunsbury, said: “It’s a great event to have just round the corner and the music has been of a really high quality.

“You can’t beat dancing in the sun to live music.”

The winner will be invited to warm up thousands of music fans at Delapre Park at Alive@Delapre on July 20, before Ronan Keating and the rest of Boyzone sing live.

The winner will be known later this evening.
