Pupils at The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School in Northampton had a big surprise when a pilot visited them as part of their project hot-air balloons.

Year 1 teacher Loren Allen got in touch with Billing Aquadrome to see if staff could help her pupils with their research.

Events manager Clair Fleming not only arranged for a Northampton Balloon Festival balloon to visit the school, she also arranged for the children to design artwork for this year’s festival brochure.

Excited pupils watched pilot Barry Newman and his team inflate the balloon on the school playing fields.

Pupils helped to spread out the balloon and were amazed at how much material was involved in making the 30-metre-tall structure .

All the children were then invited to step up to the basket.

Northampton Balloon Festival will be held at Billing Aquadrome August 14-16 at which the pupils’ art work will on display.
