Art meets engineering in unique Cosworth collaboration in Northampton

A new exhibit has been revealed at Cosworth's state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) in Northampton.

Created by French artist Virginie Litzler, the showcase comes as a result of a unique collaboration between Fermynwoods Contemporary Art and engineering firm Cosworth in St James' Mill Road.

As part of the Fermynwoods residence programme, Cosworth hosted Virginie in the latter half of 2017 as part of the inaugural Art Work Project. The programme brings together professional artists and businesses to develop creative solutions to business challenges and to identify new ways of thinking about processes and culture.

As part of her exhibition, Virginie has arranged cardboard boxes, varying in size, to change the flow of the corridor. The boxes contain items inspired by her conversations and work with the people of Cosworth, from sketches to sculptures to images from the archive room of how the landscape of Cosworth used to be.

Virginie Litzler said: “The corridor is functional in its purpose - it gets you from point A to point B.

"My work is based on movement and how it relates to daily life. As people usually don’t have time to stop in the corridor, I wanted to create something that would change the way they navigate and interact with the space.

"Because of how the boxes are laid out, people are encouraged to communicate and share the experience.”

The aim of her placement was to explore how integrating art into the workplace can enrich and affect change within it, through imagination, innovation and creativity.
