Arson investigation launched after Northampton school was evacuated and man treated for smoke inhalation

An investigation has been launched at a Northampton school after a fire in a toilet left a man needing treatment for smoke inhalation.

Weston Favell Academy had to be evacuated at around 1.20pm yesterday, following reports of smoke from a toilet area.

Emergency services were called to the scene and three fire engines from the Mounts, Mereway and Moulton were called to the school, in Booth Lane.

A police spokeswoman said one man had to be treated for smoke inhalation following the incident.

Police did not attend the scene, but the spokeswoman said an investigation has been launched as the fire was believed to have been "started deliberately."

The force is appealing for anyone with information to call the the non-emergency number, 101.
