A stack of barley straw bales worth an estimated £20,000 in a field near Ecton has been destroyed after an arson attack.
Fire crews were called out to Washbrook Lane last night and stayed at the scene of the blaze all night.
Robert White, the owner of the land, said he could not understand the mentality of the people who would deliberately destroy his property.
He said: “I’ve had the insurers out and it is probably £20,000 worth of barley straw.
“I use it for fodder and bedding for the animals.
“I can’t understand the mentality of these people. We haven’t had an incident like this for eight years. You worry that it is going to happen somewhere else.”
Police are now appealing for any information or witnesses to the suspected arson attack, which is believed to have happened some time between 8pm and 8.45pm.
Anyone with any information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
