Armed police officers carried out a “training exercise” on a road in the Brackmills area of Northampton today.
The Chronicle & Echo was contacted by a member of the public shortly after 3pm after two marked cars were seen pulling over a vehicle in Burryport Road.
The officers could be seeing pointing their guns at the vehicle and then arrested the driver.
However, a Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said the driver of the vehicle was actually a police officer and the incident was all part of a “training exercise”.
She said: “As part of their training the armed officers have to be in real-life scenarios to make it as realistic as possible.
“The man arrested was actually a police officer in plain clothes. None of the guns were loaded with live ammunition.”
