An iPhone app used by Northampton Borough Council should be enhanced so people can report littering instantly, a new report recommends.

The Report It app is already used so Northamptonians can more easily tell the local authority about things such as bin collection problems and benefit fraud.

A scrutiny panel report on littering recommends the app should now be expanded so council workers can respond more quickly.

The report also notes that photograpghs can be added to any reports, which could help refuse teams.

It says: “[Methods could include] increased promotion of the use of the NBC app. to report

incidents of littering fly tipping etc.

“Also, possible enhancement of the app. to allow reporting of positives, good points in the community [as well as] possible enhancement of the app. for use as a channel to request and coordinate community action e.g. litter picks.”

By October 2014, 983 people have used the Apple platform, which has been in existence for over year and 270 have accessed the Android version, which was released in April 2014.

The scrutiny panel said it felt that all

borough councillors should be made aware of the app, and how it works.

However, the report said the use of the app. could be widened further, such as the inclusion of a facility to report over-hanging

trees.
