A total of 500 homes in Northampton have been left without any power after a small fire in a substation in the town centre.

Firefighters were called out to a substation on the junction of London Road and the A508 shortly after 8am this morning.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue said the fire quickly “burnt itself out” and they left the scene shortly after 9am.

Engineers are currently working to restore the electricity supply to 500 homes.
