A 21-year-old man from Northampton has appeared in court charged with attempted rape and two counts of sexual assault on two women, including one who is elderly.

Mohammed Haque, aged 21, of Lindsay Avenue, Northampton, appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court this morning after he was charged in relation to two violent attacks on women in the town in the last three months.

The court heard that Haque allegedly attacked a woman who was walking through the Racecourse in Northampton at 5.30am on November 10.

Stella Moses, prosecuting, said Haque is alleged to have punched the woman three times during an attack in which he attempted to rape her.

Ms Moses said that Haque is also alleged to have carried out another attack on an elderly woman in her home in Northampton.

The court heard that Haque is alleged to have threatened the elderly woman with a metal pole and then sexually assaulted her.

Haque has also been charged with burglary as he is alleged to have stolen £20 from the woman and he also faces a charge of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Northampton Crown Court later this month.
