A blooming great result for Northampton in East Midlands in Bloom awards
Northampton has retained its Silver Gilt award in this year's East Midlands in Bloom contest.
It was announced today this afternoon that Northampton has retained the Silver Gilt award, and has also received the prestigious committee award for having the whole town in bloom.
As part of this year’s themes ‘Fun in the garden’ and ‘Remembrance’, Northampton’s entry included 44 jardiniere stands and over 200 hanging baskets in displays on streets and lampposts across the town centre as well as displays from local communities and businesses.
Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Alan Bottwood, said: “We are honoured for the town’s floral displays to have been recognised twice in this year’s East Midland’s Bloom competition.
“It is a great community event which encourages people to work together to create a beautiful and welcoming environment in the town.
“The two awards received pays tribute to the hard work that has made this continued success possible and we want to thank everyone involved.”
Northampton was judged against 70 other entries, and special mentions given in the East Midlands in Bloom report include the town’s floral cyclists, the crown floral display, Upton, Delapre Primary School, Duston Village and St Crispins.
