Ben Payne will be appearing at the Evergreen Art Cafe in Sheaf Street on Saturday April 16 from 11am to 3pm.

There will be plenty for local fans of the artist to enjoy as his latest collection includes a local landscape featuring the church at Fawsley but they will also be able to watch him work on his latest piece in the gallery.

There will also be a chance to meet Ben and chance to ask him a few questions about his work.

Ben has been painting all his life and is largely self-taught, but he learned a great deal as he grew up, from his artist mother.

After studying at school in Wimbledon, London, he went on to pursue other avenues of interest, however always continued to paint for pleasure.

The accessible nature of Ben’s work is very much a result of his background.

After graduating in psychology, he trained as a behavioural therapist specialising in working with young children with autism, helping them to overcome their difficulties in communicating with the outside world.

He believes this taught him to value simplicity and to communicate in a very direct, honest and accessible language.

In particular, 2003 was the year his style of work grew as he turned a lifetime hobby into a flourishing career, selling work instantly with one of the country’s leading fine art galleries.

He has since enjoyed successful solo shows throughout the UK and sell-out publications of his limited edition prints of his instantly recognisable escapist landscapes.

His high-impact land, sky and seascapes have been described by the gallery as having delicate quality and are inspired by the British coastline.

Ben particularly appreciates the sky above our heads, creating oil paintings using dreamlike overtones, to portray an innocent atmosphere with a combination of enchantment and sophistication. The sheer presence is pictorially manifest in a large part of his body of work to date.

His latest collection includes figurative pieces such as Red Allure and Lilac Dance, which convey centred figures with outbursts of vibrant colour, encouraging Ben to push his own artistic boundaries.

Ben Payne’s collection is available to buy or preorder from Evergreen Art Café. Costs start from £95 for oil on board original paintings.
