These care home residents in Northamptonshire have received the Covid-19 vaccine in the comfort of their own home

A number of care home residents have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the comfort of their own homes.

Templemore in Harlestone Road, Northampton and St Anns in The Crescent, Kettering are the latest of the care homes in the B&M Care Homes group to receive supply of the vaccine.

As care home residents are high on the priority list for the vaccine, they have been vaccinated in their respective care homes to give them immunity from the virus.

Staff are also being vaccinated, either at the home that they work in, or alternatively, at a local community vaccination hub.

Teresa Warren, Templemore Care Home Manager, described receiving the vaccine at the home as a ‘milestone moment’.

St Anns Care Home manager, Michelle Bhangal, added: “The vaccine has now added yet another layer of protection to those that live and work in the home, whilst reassuring those considering our home that the health, safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff remain our number one priority.”

Aside from a sore arm and a mild headache, no significant adverse side effects have been recorded.

As well as the vaccines, each home will continue to test residents on a monthly basis using PCR testing and staff will be tested weekly using the same system, as well as twice a week using Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test kits which provide a result within 30 minutes.

Additional testing will be undertaken if a resident or member of staff test positive.
