Headteacher Jennie Giovanel said: “We always knew that there would be the very real likelihood of students and staff needing to self-isolate this academic year so it was important to us that we got ahead with our plans in this regard so that our students were not disadvantaged.

“We value open and transparent communication at the college and to this end, we have also written to all other children and their parents informing them of the case, along with further information and guidance.”

A spokeswoman for the school added: "All areas affected were deep cleaned over the weekend as an additional precaution.

"The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case have received individual letters containing advice and guidance.

"These children will be staying at home in self-isolation for 14 days as a precaution and will access the college’s extensive home learning provision.

"The school has invested heavily in technology and training over the last six months to ensure that students and staff are well prepared to access learning remotely."

The school remains open and all other children should continue to attend school if they are well.
