PE students at Kingsthorpe College achieve top marks

There were a number of sucess stories amongst A-level students at Kingsthorpe College.

All six students who studied PE – Kieran Bird, Jack Clarke, James Crowson, Ross Garlick, Sam Gilkes, and Thomas Lancaster - achieved a distinction.  

Ten out of 12 students who srudied health and social care also achived the highest grade. Results in Fine Art were once again exceptionally high, with 70% of students achieving A* or A grades, with similar results achieved in Photography.

Emma Ashton achieved ABB in travel and tourism, psychology, and sociology, and gained a further B in her psychology based extended project, and is going on to study psychology at university.

Karagh Byrne achieved A* and A in art and photography, and a C in applied ICT and will study illustration at university.

Louise Calpin achieved a distinction in health and social care, and then a further A and B in English Lit and Art. She is going on to study at the Courtauld Institute of Art at the University of London.   

Marco Clark achieved AAB in maths, physics and applied ICT and will be studying aeronautical engineering.

Thomas Craddock was one of the highest achievers in the year group, with A*s in art and photography, as well as a D in IT.  He also achieved a B grade in his art based extended project, and will study games art design at the University of Northampton.  

Chloe Gooing will be studying English at university, having achieved an A grade in her English focused extended project, and then further grades of A,B,C in psychology, English Literature and history 

Ashley Lay will study economics at Nottingham after achieving AAC in economics, maths, and applied ICT. 

Molly Mason achieved a double distinction in health and social care and then C grades in the extended project and psychology and goes on to study criminology at university.

Bev Parsons achieved the grades BBC in English Lit, media, and history and goes on to study law at university.   

Rahim Uddin, who was given an unconditional offer to study computer science at the University of Northampton, achieved the grades ABB in business and applied ICT double award.

With the new linear exam qualifications in place this year, there were very few students taking external exams in Year 12.  Lewis Clark was one student who did take his AS exams, achieving ABB in economics, Physics, and Maths.

Ellie Morgan, having recent success in applying to attend The University of Oxford’s summer school programme UNIQUE over the summer, achieved an A and B grade in German and drama.

Joe Morris is in a similarly strong position after achieving A grades in both maths and further maths.

Scott Wade, vice principal at kingsthorpe College, said: “We are delighted with the results from all of our students, several of whom joined us having been declined a Post 16 place at their previous schools and who have now excelled at Kingsthorpe College achieving grades which will allow them to successfully enter the next stage of their careers, be it at university, further study, or in the workplace.
