And rather than let it take all the limelight, the event also marked the birthdays of pupils who had to celebrate during the lockdown.

The school is currently close to all but a few key workers children - but staff were determined to not let the milestone pass without marking the occasion.

On May 4, pupils, staff and parents came together for a special "virtual birthday" by looking back on the school's history and celebrating the birthdays of other students in lockdown.

The school was even able to mark an annual tradition to have the headmistress, the head girl and Northampton High's youngest pupil to come together and cut the cake.

Instead, headmistress Caroline Petryszak was joined by Daria in Year 12 and Elouise in Reception to cut their own cakes simultaneously in their homes to a chorus of Happy Birthday.

Northampton High School was originally located in town centre before moving to its purpose-built home in Hardingstone in 1992.

The school’s birthday is a key date in the school calendar, with staff and students finding exciting ways to

commemorate the occasion each year.
