While the average cost of a meal at the new 120-seat Miller & Carter restaurant will be around £20, compared to the £5-a-head offers previously available at the Talavera Way venue, new manager Simone Assenza is expecting it to be a hit.

He said: "We will be aiming to cater for a very different kind of customer than the Toby Carvery brand, bringing a really different dining experience to Northampton."

The Mitchells and Butler owned chain promises diners a choice of 12 cuts of steak as well burgers and an evening menu.

While prices range from about £15 to £25 for the steaks, there will also be lunchtime deals under a tenner available from Monday to Saturday, and the Thursday night Cork and Cleaver deal offers punters a meal and a glass of wine for £15.
