An indoor go-kart centre will be among the businesses reopening in Northampton on July 4 after getting the green light from the Government.

Teamworks Karting's Northampton track will be restricting group sizes and doing more cleaning to comply with the guidelines when it welcomes back wannabe racers next month.

The Harvey Reeves Road circuit, which also has racing simulators and can be hired for parties, has been closed like the rest of the leisure industry since March 23.

Marketing director Jo Quin said: “After more than three months of being closed, we are excited to be getting back on track!

"We are so excited to deliver our awesome events to the people of Northamptonshire.

"We have worked hard with the National Karting Association, to develop the new procedures which will ensure that we can reopen, following all Government guidelines, in a way which provides a safe experience for our customers and staff.

Teamworks Karting, which also has tracks in Birmingham, Letchworth and Mansfield, said other changes visitors can expect include individual helmets, balaclavas and gloves to be mandatory and sanitised racesuits.

There will also be floor stickers for social distancing, online-only booking, card payments only and staff will be wearing PPE where necessary.

"It is really important that we reopen our tracks in a responsible manner, taking additional Covid-19 precautionary measures into account and giving our teams the training and equipment that they need," a spokesperson from Teamworks Karting said.

"We will comply with all Government guidelines and we have risk-assessed our whole business to ensure we are covid-secure.

"What will be the same is awesome events, friendly staff and the ultimate fun day out."
