Workers also renewed ironwork where required, installed road markings, cleaned the gullies and applied high friction surfacing on the approaches to the traffic lights.

The scheme, which should improve the structural stability of the road, increase skid resistance and improve safety for road users, was finished on Tuesday night (April 20).

A West Northamptonshire Council spokesperson said “The Northamptonshire Highways team undertook the final work on Bridge Street, the works took place as usual between 8pm and 6am.

"As this marked the final night of works in the area, we would like to thank residents and businesses for their cooperation and apologise for any disruption the works may have caused.”

In a separate set of works, the highways team is also resurfacing the carriageway of St Andrews Road/Spencer Bridge junction and approaches while upgrading the traffic lights and pedestrian crossing.

The full scheme, due to complete by Friday next week, includes resurfacing, renewal of carriageway ironworks, traffic signal sensor installation, high friction surfacing installation on approaches to controlled crossing points, road marking and crossing studs renewal, gully cleansing and new permanent traffic signals and pedestrian crossing points.

The resurfacing and associated works will be completed at night between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption.

The works will be split into two phases for the north and south sides of the junction - Spencer Bridge Road and Grafton Street will remain open and traffic will be controlled by two-way temporary signals.
