A police officer witnessed an exchange and stopped Harris who was found in possession of a gold iPhone, £110 in cash and Class A drugs

A 24-year-old from Northampton has been jailed after he was found with 58 wraps of cocaine and heroin in his underwear.

Devontae Tyon Harris appeared at Northampton Crown Court on October 19 for sentencing, after he pleaded guilty to two charges of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at the same court on October 4.

Harris was seen handing over a small package in exchange for cash in Prentice Walk, Northampton on August 14 this year. An officer from Northamptonshire Police’s Operation Revive West team witnessed the exchange while on patrol.

According to police, the officer approached Harris, who was with another man, and asked them to stop, causing both to run off. Following a short foot chase, Harris was detained and searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

A gold iPhone was recovered along with £110 in cash and Harris was arrested and taken into police custody where a total of 58 individual wraps of cocaine (32) and heroin (26) were found in his underwear.

Harris was subsequently charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class A drugs – namely cocaine and heroin - and appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court on August 16. He was remanded into custody and the case transferred to Northampton Crown Court.

Sergeant Scott Garbett of the Operation Revive West team said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed to Devontae Harris, and hope this is seen as a deterrent to anyone who is thinking of dealing drugs in Northampton.

“Drug harm is a matter of priority for the Force, and we will continue to tenaciously enforce and disrupt drug dealers, who prey on the most vulnerable people in our society and bring misery to our streets and communities.”

Harris was sentenced to 40 months imprisonment and fined £228.
