Stranglers, Boomtown Rats and top tribute shows at Silverstone Classic

The Silverstone Classic returns to Northamptonshire this weekend with a full supporting line up of live music to accompany the racing.

Tomorrow night (July 29)will be headlined by The Boomtown Rats with support from tribute acts Ultimate Elton and Limehouse Lizzy.

The Saturday will be headlined by The Stranglers (pictured) with support by Reef and Live / Wire.

DJ Serling Moss will be playing between bands on both days.

Friday’s headliners had stand-out number one hits in the late 70s with Rat Trap and I Don’t Like Mondays but disbanded in the mid-80s while frontman Bob Geldof concentrated on his charity work and a solo career.

The Irish new wave band, however, reformed in 2013 .

The Stranglers had 23 UK Top 40 hits and 17 UK Top 40 albums in a career spanning five decades, with major hits including Golden Brown, Peaches, No More Heroes and Always The Sun.

Reef rose to fame in the mid 1990s, achieving considerable chart fame.

Their most successful hit Place Your Hands reached number six in the UK singles charts while the album Glow went straight to number one when released in 1997.

Reef are regular favourites at major festivals and have some great new material for 2016 too.

Opening proceedings on the Saturday are Live/Wire who will be pumping out some stirring AC/DC hits to get everyone in the right party mood.

The Silverstone Classic is from July 29 to July 31.

Besides music, there will be track parades, infield displays from more than 100 car clubs featuring more than 10,000 classic cars as well as interactive driving activities and dynamic demonstrations.

The Silverstone Clallic is th e world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

Three day, two day, family tickets and day tickets are available and tickets must be bought in advance.
