Shambala returns to a secret location at a Northamptonshire country estate for four days during the bank holiday weekend.

The annual festival will feature more than 200 musical acts playing across 12 stages.

There will also be world-class cabaret, an array of workshops, stand-up comedy, inspirational talks and debates, circus and acrobatic performances, interactive theatre and acclaimed poetry.

Drum and bass heavyweights, hip-hop pioneers, a 17-piece 1950s big band and a master of the African ngoni will be providing the soundtrack to this year’s event.

Explaining their approach to the line up, organisers said: “Every year, we scour the planet to find the perfect mix of acts for your festival.”

Highlights this year will include Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba, Roni Size, High Contrast and the Jungle Brothers.

Bassekou Kouyate is regarded as one of the masters of the ngoni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa.

Having collaborated and toured with some of the world’s best-known artists – including Ali Farka Toure and Damon Albarn – Kouyate will be playing the main stage with his band Ngoni Ba.

One of the godfathers of British drum and bass, Roni Size will be taking fans on a journey through 18 years of the genre while High Contrast – currently at the forefront of the current drum and bass scene – will be bringing providing a soulful, groovy take on the genre.

Other acts performing include the legendary Jungle Brothers, who pioneered the fusion of jazz and hip-hop in the 1980s and 1990s.

Their 1988 debut album, Straight out the Jungle was the very first album from the Native Tongues posse, who completely transformed hip-hop in the proceeding years.

Shambala takes place from Thursday, August 27 until Sunday, August 30.
