Sitcom star Lesley Joseph is to star in a new sitcom based around William Shakespeare.

Shaxpeare’s Box, a new comedy for the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, features the Birds Of A Feather star as the voice of Lady Elizabeth Bernard, Shakespeare’s granddaughter, heir and last descendant, who lived and died in Northampton at Abington Manor (now a museum).

The play has been put on by the Masque Theatre.

The story starts with a mysterious 17th century box, discovered in the museum loft after a violent storm and it quickly attracts the attention of opposing factions in the town.

As each side plots to outwit the other, Lady Elizabeth’s ghost intervenes, to protect the box and its contents.

It will run for 12 performances in Abington Church, where Elizabeth Bernard is buried, from Wednesday January 6 to Saturday January 16.

Tickets are available from www. masquetheatre.co.uk , by phone on 07586 288793 or in person from St Giles Music, 16 St Giles Terrace, Northampton.
