Davro and Welsh hit the ice ahead of panto launch

Panto star Bobby Davro has said he thinks this year’s show at the Royal & Derngate is going to be ‘even better’ than the hugely popular production of Aladdin in 2011.

The comedian, who is playing the part of Buttons in a production of Cinderella this year, has revealed that advance ticket sales have been higher than last year.

Mr Davro, who enjoyed a skate on the ice rink in Northampton’s Market Square ahead of the opening night of Cinderella tomorrow, said: “I think it is going to be a cracking show this year. Cinderella is my favourite pantomime and all the comedy material is different to last year except for the ‘kangaroo’ bit which I’m doing again this year.

“There is something for people of all ages and I think it is going to be even better than last year.”

Ms Welch, who last appeared in a pantomime six years ago, said Mr Davro had written an extremely funny script which would keep her on her toes.

She said: “I have a number of different cues and I have not sung for six years so I’m a bit worried about that but I’m sure it will be a really good show for the audience.

“I was bowled over by the support of the town when I did the Christmas light switch-on. People have been very welcoming.”

Cinderella runs from tomorrow to Sunday, January 6. Tickets, priced from £16 to £24, are can online at www.royalandderngate.co.uk.
