For many years the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust has been helping to support and develop the talents of young musicians from across the county.

And several times a year, the public are lucky enough to be given the chance to hear what these instrumentalists have to offer.

This Saturday is one such example as the trust will be holding a Big Band Night at The Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering, starting at 7.30pm. The evening of entertainment promises to include an impressive programme of Big Band music, featuring some of the best young jazz musicians that Northamptonshire has to offer, notably including members of the County Youth Big Band, Jazz 2 and Jazz 3.

Tickets cost £6 or £4 for concessions.

Also this weekend, Sulgrave Manor will become the beautiful setting for a concert by Northamptonshire group Fiori Musicali.

The evening of music will begin at 7.30pm, including pieces by Handel, Bach, Telemann and Vivaldi.

Tickets cost £20 and there is 20 per cent off for children, students, unemployed people and blue badge holders. To find out more log on to www.fiori-musicali.com.

Also coming up in early February, the Towcester Choral Society will be holding an all-day Choral Workshop on Saturday, February 9 at Towcester Town Hall between 10am and 4.30pm. The event will culminate with a short, free concert so that family and friends can hear what the attendees have achieved.

Led by Helen Swift, the workshop will concert everything from learning to sing by ear, to more about improvising. The course costs £12 or £7 for those aged under 18. Fees include tea and coffee. Participants should take their own lunch. For more info email secretary@towcesterchoralsociety.org.uk or ring 01327 830593.
