IT HAS been a week since people in Northampton and Daventry were told to boil their water, and residents say they are now coping fine with the inconvenience.
When the notice was issued, shoppers flocked to the county’s supermarkets, causing shortages, but it appears people have since settled into the routine.
Mother-of-two Sarah Beer, of Abington, Northampton, said: “To be honest it’s been absolutely f
ine. We’ve got enough containers so we’ve been boiling water and decanting it. It’s not been a really huge problem.
“The kids are getting used to it. I’m sure it’s a problem for people who have got little babies but for us it’s not been a problem.”
Pensioners Hazel and Harry Tuttle, from Cherry Lodge, Northampton, had been concerned about the cost of buying bottles of water.
Mrs Tuttle said: “We are boiling water. It’s a bit of an inconvenience but then we have got to be safe. We’ve been boiling it and then cooling it down and boiling it for the washing up.
“We’ve been managing all right. We don’t know how expensive it is to boil the kettle but it’s been on the boil almost constantly.
“I’m a bit concerned about paying the bill but you have to be safe. I think we’re going to boil our drinking water for a while after the boil notice is lifted too.”
