Young star Clark signs on at Saints

Saints boss Jim Mallinder believes he has signed one of the hottest prospects in the country after snapping up Calum Clark from Leeds.

The 20-year-old back-row forward will move to Franklin's Gardens next season as Mallinder continues his policy of signing up the best young English talent available.

And Clark is certainly one of those after becoming the he youngest forward to play in the Guinness Premiership when he made his debut for Leeds in September 2007 against Saracens at the age of just 19.

Saints fought off bids from Leicester, Worcester and Saracens to sign the youngster, and Mallinder said: "Calum has made an excellent start to his career and we are excited that he will be part of our squad next season.

"He is rightly regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the country. He has good ball handling skills, physicality, and a mature approach to the game that was recognised when he was made England Under-20s captain last year.

"We understand that there was a lot of interest from other clubs and we are delighted that Calum has confidence in where we are taking the club."
