WOOTTON Road Runners are celebrating after pipping the Northants Police to the team crown at the annual Northants’ Police Eric Humphries Cross Country 11k race.

Steve Poole was the leading Wootton Road Runner home in third place in a time of 39.37 seconds, Chris Gallagher was 12th (43.05 secs) and Richard Lack 15th (44.05 secs).

It was nip and tuck as to who would win the team event, but Steeve Heighway ensured it was Wootton that claimed the silverware as he came home 17th in a time of 44.27 seconds.

Wootton’s other runners were Damien Murphy (21st, 46.18sec), Jasmine Lowdon (28th 47.25 sec), Phil Wood (34th, 49.52 sec), Martin Fowler (35th 50.22sec), James Shaw (57th 57.29 sec) and Andrey Starcevic (57.51 sec).

A team of six Northampton Road Runners took part, with Steph Russell taking the club’s lady honours crossing the line in 46.37.

Mick Clarke was 3rd in the MV70 category in 62.40. Dave Whatton had a fine performance breaking the 50 minute barrier in 49.23.

Charlotte Yarker also enjoyed a great time of 55.47 and Jim Anderson 57.08 and Karen Irving 77.45 capped off an excellent NRR outing.

NORTHAMPTON Road Runner John Fleming braved the overnight snowfall to complete the Irchester 15k race in 1.09.38, finishing 19th overall.

CHRIS GALLAGHER led the Wootton Road Runners home in a snowy Charnwood Hills 14-mile fell race at the weekend, coming home in 16th place. Gallagher’s time was 1h 45 mins 7 secs, and just two places behind him in 18th was Mark Fowler, showing great strength to finish in 1hr 45min 28 seconds.

Next home was Richard Lack in 28th (1hr 48mins 2 secs), Phil Wood was 117th (2hrs 8 mins), Stuart Defreyne 132nd (2hrs 9mins 57 secs), Nicola Wood 148th (2hrs 12 mins), Mike Kendell 169th (2hrs 18 mins 2 secs, Deepesh Patel 172nd (2hrs 19mins 9 secs) and Andrey Starcevic was 249th (2hrs 41mins 10secs).

At Irchester, two Wootton Road Runners took part in the Irchester Challange.

David Craigie took part in the 5k and finished 18th in a time of 28mins 17 seconds, while in the 15k Steve Heighway finshed in a brilliant fourth place in a time of 1hr 1 min 37 seconds.

Northampton Road Runners often turn out in force for the Charnwood Hills event and this year was no different.

But the night before the race and the snowfalls, the wise veterans of previous Charnwood Hills races decided an extra hour or two in bed is what they need leaving three Charnwood first timers, Tony Letts, Jocelyn Granger and Martin Andrews to take the challenge.

Tony Letts led the NRR home finishing in 35th in 1:50:20 followed by Martin Andrews 100th in 2:04:52 and Jocelyn Granger 192nd in 2:25:16.
