Chris Wilder has resigned as manager of Oxford United, paving the way for his imminent switch to Northampton Town.

The former Halifax boss, who had been at the helm since December 2008, led his side to a 1-0 win over Torquay at the Kassam on Saturday afternoon before Oxford chairman Ian Lenagan broke the news.

The resignation arrives after Lenagan rejected an approach from the Cobblers yesterday to speak with Wilder about the vacant manager’s position.
