TENNIS: Double delight for Dallington Ladies Veterans

it's a case of a double delight for the ladies veterans of Dallington Lawn Tennis Club, with both the A and B sides winning their respective leagues.

In the Northampton Ladies Veterans Winter League Division One, Dallington A have picked up their first top flight title, finishing above last year’s winners Rugby A by two points. Rugby ended County’s division one dominance in the 2015 season, but there is set to be another new name on the trophy. Dallington A’s success has seen them win half of their matches 8-0, including victories against Northampton A and County A, as well as a couple of 6-2 victories, with one being against runners up Rugby A.

Lisa Hodges-Cox was a key contributor to her sides success, dropping just a single set in her 16 sets played, while partnering Jenny Gatley, Zoe Yuill and captain Nicky Wates. Other members of the title winning squad include Sara Young, Sue Robertson, Sue Vinney and Angela Vance.

Dallington’s Ladies Veterans B team enjoyed equal success, winning the division two title, and gaining promotion to the top league.

Second-placed Rushmere A still have a game to play, but have an impossible task to catch Dallington, who have an unassailable 11 point lead at the top. Dallington won four out of their five matches, which included an 8-0 win against Rugby B, and a 7-1 triumph over County C.

The only match they were unable to pick up a win in was a 4-4 draw with second placed Rushmere.

Captain Liz Dutton has been a regular feature in her side’s success, playing in every match. Her 100 per cent appearance record has seen her contribute to half of Dallington’s final 30-point total, winning 15 of her 20 sets played.
