Swann: I'd relish bowling in Ashes with Monty
Graeme Swann insists he and Monty Panesar are the men to put the Australians in a spin in this summer's Ashes series.
The ex-Northants man is keen to team up with his former County colleague when the Ashes get underway at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff next month.
And the former Sponne School pupil is adamant that a two-pronged spin attack will bamboozle the Aussies.
It seems likely that England will field two spinners in the first Test, and with Swann a definite, that means the other place is a toss up between Panesar and Yorkshire's Adil Rashid.
But Panesar seems to be the man in the box seat as he has been named in the England team to take on Warwickshire in this week's warm-up game, and Swann admits he wants to play with his old County Ground team-mate.
"I'd love it if we go into each game with two spinners," said Swann.
"I realise it's fairly alien for England to have two spinners – and obviously we'll have to wait to see what the pitches are like – but I'd relish the prospect of bowling in tandem with Monty.
"In Trinidad at the end of the winter tour of the West Indies we bowled together and it went pretty well – hopefully it was a sign of things to come. If we bowl together well in the right conditions we can turn the game."
Swann is chomping at the bit to take part in his first Ashes series, and he also believes England have got a fanastic chance of winning it – providing the key men
perform.
"I'll be really hyped up in the dressing room before the start. There will be butterflies," said the Northampton-born all-rounder.
"This is a massive series for all us players and I can't wait to get stuck into them.
"To beat Australia this summer it will be down to three or four really good performances, whether it be with the bat or the ball.
"Someone will have to do something special.
"It can be one spell of bowling that changes things.
"It might be just five or six overs from Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad or hopefully me to pick up the two key wickets you are after.
"I'd love it if I can be that man."
