Adebayo Akinfenwa has posted a Twitter message to the Cobblers fans after it was revealed the club have made an approach to re-sign him.
News of Northampton’s bid for the 31-year-old was broken on the Chronicle & Echo website at 10pm on Wednesday and Akinfenwa was immediately inundated with messages from supporters.
Akinfenwa wrote on the social networking site: “I have to say I’m feeling the luv from all the #ntfc fans truss me it means a lot. Whatever happens have faith the team will survive #BMO.”
Discussions between the two parties remain ongoing on Thursday and any deal would need to be completed by the 5pm deadline.
It is understood the Cobblers are also talking to other players about adding a more physical dimension to their forward line.
However, many supporters have made it clear that they want Akinfenwa to be that man.
“Come back Bayo and help us survive this season. We need you!” Richard Watson posted.
Dave Brown said: “I am 100% sure the addition of @daRealAkinfenwa will keep us up.”
Others, though, were more dramatic in their views, with Wally Hall adding: “They won’t have to take the East Stand roof off! The Supporters will lift it off!”
