Steelbacks chasing home quarter-final, says Capel
Northamptonshire Steelbacks head coach David Capel wants his side to finish the job in tomorrow's final Twenty20 Cup group match with the Worcestershire Royals at the County Ground.
Capel's men know a win will earn them a home quarter-final after they beat the Glamorgan Dragons by 20 runs under floodlights in Cardiff last night to keep them on top of the Mid/West/Wales group.
And, with the Royals also needing a win tomorrow to stand any chance of qualifying, Capel is expecting a cracking clash.
"We set out to get a home quarter-final and we are one step closer," he said after last night's win.
"It's all down to us because we are at home against Worcestershire and if we win we get that prize.
"We are going for it and the lads are determined. It's a lovely opportunity. We have a clear goal to aim at and Worcestershire will need to win. It should be one heck of a contest.
"We have got the amount of wins we set out to get and we have played some good cricket along the way.
"We never kid ourselves and we are always looking to go one better and trying to improve ourselves.
"We have kept winning and even when we made an inadequate total against Gloucestershire last week we almost pulled it off.
"That shows you the fight, quality and character we have got in that dressing-room.".
Capel was also full of praise for captain Nicky Boje and Riki Wessels for their impressive displays last night.
He added: "The captain was exceptional both in batting and bowling.
"I am also pleased with Riki and I am delighted that he finished that innings off. Now we want to see him making a habit of it."
