Skipper Boje so happy with Riki
Nicky Boje was full of praise for Riki Wessels as the Steelbacks claimed a 20-run win over the Glamorgan Dragons in Cardiff.
Wessels hit an unbeaten 66 to guide Northants to a total of 157 before Boje – who also batted well – did the damage with the ball.
The skipper was delighted for his fellow South African.
"It was a difficult start for us, losing a couple of wickets and it wasn't the greatest of pitches," Boje said.
"It was tough to score on but we got a couple of partnerships going with Riki and the way he played through the whole innings was fantastic.
"That sort of display is what we expect from him. He is a quality player and he strikes the ball so cleanly.
"He has shown what he can do by getting that total for us.
"He helped us get over 150 and that was a very good score on a difficult pitch.
"They probably scored too many runs for my liking in the first five overs or so but when we took the pace off the ball it made it hard for them.
"But the key thing was we took wickets regularly and if you do that you just put more and more pressure on the batting side because the run rate goes up."
Boje, meanwhile, was pleased with his own display.
He added: "There was good turn out there and I am obviously very pleased with the win."
n Another batting collapse left Northants beaten by 76 runs in their Second XI Championship match against Surrey at Campbell Park.
After a rain-affected final morning, the visitors' declaration on 188-4 offered County a victory target of 254 in what turned out to be 45 overs.
Paul Harrison (31) and Steven Crook (25) offered some resistance but Northants were dismissed for 177 with ten balls remaining.
David Ripley's side will hope for better things away to Sussex at Hove next week.
