Kashif Siddiqi says signing for the Cobblers represents the conclusion of a ‘great journey’ but that he may not be ready for first-team action for another two months.
The right-back, who this week signed a professional contract at Sixfields, trained with the club last autumn before suffering a hip injury.
Siddiqi is grateful to the club for allowing him to return and for giving him the opportunity to progress his career in England after several seasons abroad.
“It’s been a great journey,” said the 27-year-old, who has played in Dubai but has spent the majority of his career in America.
“I came back from the United States last year and unfortunately I got an injury but the club have been very good to me, letting me come in and out.
“I’m pretty much recovered from my injury, we’re managing it with the backroom staff here who have been excellent with me.
“I stayed in touch with a few of the players from last year and it’s a good group.”
Although he has now recovered from the hip injury that delayed his official unveiling last year, Siddiqi admits it may be some time before he features in a matchday squad.
“For me it’s about getting myself together and I think it’s going to take a couple of months for me to get used to the English style of play,” he said.
“I’ve been playing abroad for so long so it will take a while, I also need to make sure I’m 100 per cent fit as well and that will take a little time.”
