Sampson and Crosby on verge of signing new Cobblers deals

Ian Sampson could sign an extension to his contract as Cobblers manager before the end of the week.

The manager, and his assistant Malcolm Crosby, are set to be rewarded for the team's recent run of form with a deal that will give them the chance to build something 'long-term' at Sixfields.

The Chron understands the deal has been agreed in principle by all parties, and that just the legal details are now to be completed.

David Cardoza is confident Sampson is the right man to take the club forward through this decade and lead them out of Coca-Cola League Two.

"I don't see any problem with the deal and nor does he," said the chairman. "It's not really a negotiation and hopefully we'll be able to announce something in a week or so.

"I don't really want to comment on the length of the contract at this stage but we want a manager who is going to have time to build a team.

"With where we are with the redevelopment and the financial situation at the club it's almost like we're starting again from a break-even point.

"I'm confident Sammo can put his mark on the club. Between him and Malcolm, they've sorted out league two and hopefully they can sort out league one for us as well."
