Sammo can't wait for some action... at last!
Cobblers boss Ian Sampson admits he is delighted at the prospect of his team finally playing some football at Macclesfield tonight.
But the manager says he has every sympathy for supporters unable to get to the game due to its rapid rescheduling.
The game was postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch at Moss Rose, and the two teams will attempt to get the Coca-Cola League Two fixture on tonight.
The decision has frustrated Town supporters – whose travelling number is likely to be greatly reduced by the short notice given for the new fixture.
Sampson says the players will be grateful to those who do make the 200-plus mile round trip on a cold January night, but feels that getting a game in after an 18-day football drought is of paramount importance.
"We're delighted it's been rearranged so quickly because we need to get out there and play some football," said Sampson. "We need to play sooner rather than later, because it's been a little while since both teams last managed to get a game in.
"I can sympathise with the supporters because it will be difficult for them to get the time off work, and with it being a Wednesday night it's not ideal.
"But we're a football club and we need to be playing football. We can't keep going without any games.
"I feel for the fans but we need to get some games played. It's nice to have the backing and our away fans are fantastic, but whatever crowd we take will be nice and loud.
"The ones that do come to the game, we will be very grateful to them for their support."
Meanwhile, the Cobblers have announced they will face different opponents in Saturday's Coca-Cola League Two game at Sixfields.
The Cobblers' original opponents, Accrington Stanley, will be involved in FA Cup action against Fulham this weekend after they beat Gillingham last night, so that original game has been postponed.
Instead the fixture with Chesterfield, originally postponed from January 9 and rescheduled for Tuesday February 2, will now be played on Saturday. This change of opponent has been ratified by the Football League.
Supporters who have purchased tickets for the Accrington fixture will be able to use those tickets for the re-arranged game whenever that is played. No new date for this game has yet been confirmed.
Supporters who have purchased tickets for the Chesterfield fixture - either for January 9 or February 2 - can use their tickets this weekend.
