Saints make hard work of Sale
Sale 7 Saints 15 SAINTS kept up the pressure at the top with dominant display that should have brought more at sandy Edgeley Park.
Saints scored two tries through Paul Diggin and Chris Ashton to make it eight defeats in a row for the home side. It was also the first time Saints had done the double over Sale since 1999/2000.
A nightmare kicking display from Stephen Myler saw the fly-half spurn four simple penalties and two try-chances was missed as well.
It looked like it would be an unlikely 0-0 at the break, but Myler put in a lovely grubber kick for Paul Diggin to pick up and score. Bruce Reihana took over kicking duties to land conversion.
Sale were reduced to two long range penalty efforts that were also missed. At half-time the PA announcer got everybody for a kicking competition much to the crowd's amusement, though they enjoyed Myler's misses more.
After the break Sale were stopped on the line three times but it was Ashton who finished off a move he started who scored a try.
Ben Cohen dotted down against his old club and Charlie Hodgson converted to give Sale a chance of the bonus point. They had a penalty, but with the last kick of the game Hodgson hit a post from 40m-plus.
