SAINTS: 'Let's keep our heads'
Saints boss Jim Mallinder says it is imperative his title-challenging side don't let their great run go to their heads.
Saturday's superb win at Worcester was Saints' eighth in a row in all competitions and their fourth on the trot in the Guinness Premiership.
Saints are not only on course for a place in the Premiership play-offs, but also top of their LV= Cup pool and have a great chance of reaching the knockout stages of the Heineken Cup.
It has been a great finish to 2009 for Saints, but Mallinder knows they can't rest on their laurels if they are to turn their promise into silverware to follow winning the European Challenge Cup last year.
Mallinder said: "We have just got to carry on working hard now, we can't let it go to our heads. We had a great finish to last season, to win a competition was magic.
"We talked about wanting to improve our league form this year. To do that we have talked about winning some games away from home and we have done that.
"The win on Saturday was the third one we have done in the league, so we have easily bettered last season's performance there. We need to carry that on into next year and keep on improving."
Three tries at Sixways on Saturday makes Saints the top try-scorers in the Premiership and they take on the next best attack in the league, London Irish, at Franklin's Gardens this weekend.
It is being billed as the battle of the entertainers as second takes on third and the Exiles come to the Gardens on the crest of a wave after ending leaders Saracens' unbeaten record on Sunday.
Toby Booth's side have actually won one game less than Saints, but are one point ahead thanks to four bonus points. Saints just missed out on adding to their three bonus points on Saturday, with Worcester beaten and a man down at the death, but Mallinder was not upset at missing out.
"We are delighted with the way we played," said Mallinder. "You have to win the game first and then give yourselves an opportunity to go for the bonus point.
"I was actually delighted that even when time was up we looked after the ball and played well and could have very nearly scored.
"It would have been lovely to come away with five points but we're very grateful and will accept the four."
