Saints handed favourable Heineken Cup pool

SAINTS have been drawn alongside Cardiff Blues, Edinburgh and Castres in next season's Heineken Cup pool stages.

Jim Mallinder's men are in pool one, just as they were last year, but this time their opposition are a little less intimidating.

The men from Franklin's Gardens came up against Munster, Perpignan and Treviso last time round and eventually finished second behind the Irish giants.

But they will be more confident of finsihing top of their pool this season, with Cardiff likely to provide the toughest opposition.

Saints will also look forward to a reunion with legenday loosehead prop Tom Smith, who is now forwards coach at Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, English champions Leicester have been drawn alongside the Scarlets, Treviso and Perpignan and current Heineken Cup holders Toulouse face Wasps, Glasgow and the Dragons.
