Steve Diamond says his Sale Sharks side will play with ambition at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday.

The Sharks have lost just once during 2016, with last month’s defeat at Worcester Warriors the only blot on their copybook.

Diamond’s side are only three points behind fifth-placed Saints in the Aviva Premiership standings and have a game in hand.

However, they have not won in Northampton since the 36-34 success in May, 2006.

And Diamond told Sale’s official website: “We’ve got to pick up a few wins away from home to get in the top four, but, again, it’s difficult to do that at Northampton.

“We’ve got to go there with that ambition, and play.

“They are still top-four side, but they’ve struggled a bit with international call-ups.

“We’ve had a good period through it, and we’ve got to try and eek something out of the game if we have any ambition of finishing in the top four.

“This season, we’ve had a different mentality in away games. This year, we go to win, and pick our strongest team.

“The game plan is to win, there’s a positivity around the camp.

“We know what their strengths are, and we’ve got to operate around that, and ultimately win on Saturday.”
