ROGER WILSON is desperate to take a Premiership winner’s medal back home to Ireland.

The 30-year-old recently agreed to join Ulster at the end of the season after four years at Franklin’s Gardens, but he wants to make sure he leaves on a high by helping Saints land the Premiership title for the first time.

Wilson couldn’t turn down the chance of ending his career back home, but he is determined to land a big pot in England.

And he knows that the next four weeks will be pivotal as Saints have to do without their England stars while competing in the Premiership.

“I am desperately keen to play well over the next four or five months to put us in a position to win the Premiership,” said Wilson. “That would be brilliant.

“We have had success, winning the LV= Cup and the European Challenge Cup, and getting to the Heineken Cup final was great, but it would be brilliant to end by winning the Premiership and taking a winner’s medal home.”

Saints start their run of crucial games at Gloucester on Saturday, where they have won just once in the last seven years. And though Saints have not set a points target Wilson admits the minimum is to still be in contention by the end of the Six Nations.

“We have got four games and we are in third at the minute,” said Wilson. “We will not hide from the fact that we did struggle at the start of the year without the internationals, we were third by the time they got back.

“We have to make sure we get as much as we can out of these games. We have not set any goals, but we want to make sure come the end of the Six Nations we will be there or thereabouts and ready to push forwards.

“You would like to say you want to go out and win every game but it might not work out like that. The boys know it is a massive period for us, if we don’t get anything from it it could drop us out of contention, so everybody is fully focused. We realise it will be a step up in intensity from the LV= Cup and we are looking forward to it.”
